Will the Hyperloop ever happen?

Railway transportation system remains in steady demand to the public sectors for the cheapest and fastest long-distance journeys within the countries. Different varieties of rail transport facilities like metros, tubes, subways etc are available in the urban regions. This article is about the fastest and comparably efficient rail transportation that has been theoretically proposed yet.

What is Hyperloop?
Hyperloop is the theoretically fastest rail transportation system for people as well as cargo shipments. It has got a tubular-pod structure that can nullify the air resistance and friction that prevents the smooth rail travel of trains. This makes it faster than the existing high-speed trains. It also promises a significant reduction in travel time for the passengers. Also, guarantees safer and cheaper rail transportation.

History of Hyperloop
Mr. Elon Reeve Musk, the CEO of SpaceX has published the Hyperloop technology in 2013. Later, Virgin Hyperloop has made some technical changes in his proposal achieved the first manned test drive of Hyperloop on 8th November 2020 in Nevada desert outside Las Vegas. The successful test drive was with a speed of 172 km/hour and travelled 500 meters in 15 seconds.

Future of Hyperloop
Several research programs are still in progress for the official launch of Hyperloop networks in many parts of the world. The UAE, South Korea, Pittsburgh, India, etc have ongoing Virgin Hyperloop projects.

The ongoing multi-billion dollar project, the Hyperloop Abu Dhabi promises the Dubai-Abu Dhabi travel in 12 minutes. Also, the ongoing Indian Hyperloop project guarantees the Pune-Maharashtra rail travel in 25 minutes.

The expenses to build up the tubular structure and its run is significantly the biggest hurdle that the Hyperloop faces from the very beginning. Virgin Hyperloop has announced that  they target to launch the Hyperloops commercially by 2030. Let us hope for the soonest reality of Hyperloop trains that can make our rail transportation fastest, secure and cheapest.
