Do the LED, LCD TVs consume more current than old CRT TV?

Before the evolution of the smart epoch in the television(TV) industry, CRT TV was in the market with great demand. Even though the electronic market nowadays is flooded with new smart TVs, there are people who still use the old CRT TV.

Are you aware of the consumption of electricity of the new age televisions?
Do they consume more power than old TVs?

This article speaks about the comparison of the current consumption of the new and old televisions.

CRT stands for cathode ray tube. By deflecting electron beams on to a phosphorescent screen, the images are displayed on the CRT TV screen. The generation of these beams of electrons requires more electricity.

LED stands for light emitting diode. LED TV uses energy efficient light emitting diodes for the display of pictures. After the light rays are passed through the necessary filters, images are displayed on the LED TV screen.

LCD stands for liquid crystal display. Here the images are displayed by employing liquid crystal display. The coloured images are produced by filtering the white light produced by light emitting diodes or fluorescent lamps at the backside of the screen.

Do the LED, LCD TVs consume more current than old CRT TV?

The answer is no. The employment of energy saving lights such as fluorescent lights and LED lights for the display of picture on the LED and LCD TV make them consume less electricity than old CRT TV. The generation of electron beams for the proper display of the picture in the CRT TV screen requires more and more current.

Amidst of all these statements, certain other factors contribute to the energy consumption of the new age televisions. Bigger the size of the screen of LED/LCD televisions, the more electricity will be consumed. Plasma TVs are usually available at larger screen sizes with comparatively large electricity consumption than all these categories.

There are several features in the new age televisions. Accession to wifi and social media are the key features nowadays. There are even energy saving features on smart TVs available in the today's market. Think once before you make a decision.  Always go for energy saving displays with a suitable screen size and calibrate your display to reduce the power loss. Always enable the energy saving features on your television and make sure the display turns to sleep mode after the tolerable level of inactivity.
