What is CCTV system?
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) is the video surveillance system aiming to detect intruders, criminal activities, traffic violations, and other emergency scenarios. The ‘closed circuit’ in its abbreviation conveys that they capture the videos and transmit the views signals to a limited number of display monitors. Also, the videos can be backed up to their storage medium.

They have a longer range than some cameras. Also, they have higher weather and water proof ratings than typical dome cameras. On the other hand, some hotels, spas, and shops also use dome cameras also for outdoor installation due to their unique design structure.
How does it work?
Based on the type of data signals, CCTV systems are also classified into two.
- Analog CCTV
- Digital CCTV
The mode of operation in both the systems is just the same except the difference in the type of signals. Analogue CCTV systems use analog cameras for the transmission of the analog signals through ordinary coaxial cables. They use DVR (Digital Video Recorder) for the processing the data signals and transmitting to the display monitor. After processing the videos are also stored in their corresponding hard disk drives.
Whereas, digital or IP ( Internet Protocol) CCTV systems use in cameras for the transmission of digital signals through Ethernet CAT cables. They use NVR (Network Video Recorder) and PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch for the processing of data and then its storage and transmission. Today's market is flooded with the demand for IP cameras due to the widespread adoption of digital signals.
Applications
- From the live telecast or stored videos the event of unpleasant or emergency scenarios, approach of robbers, intruders etc in or to your home or organisation can be detected through the CCTV systems. Thus your home and your valuable entities can be secured to an extend.
- Violation of traffic rules can also be detected through public transport CCTV system.
- Crime scenarios can be significantly hampered due to the installation of surveillance cameras in public places like worship centers, restaurants, hospitals etc.
